Questions about templates
What gets saved, what you fill in each time, and what happens when the paperwork changes.
What exactly does a template save?
The PDF itself, every field drawn on it, the roles those fields belong to, the order the roles sign in, and the signing window. Everything about the send except who the counterparties are this time.
How is a role different from a recipient?
A role is what someone is - “Client”, “Head of Legal” - rather than who they are. The template names the roles and leaves the email addresses blank; you fill them in when you send, and every field drawn for that role follows the person you named.
Do I have to draw fields at all?
No. A role with no fields signs the way any recipient does, placing their signature wherever they like. Fields are for when the finished document has to come back laid out a particular way.
Can I change a template after sending from it?
You can rename it, and edit its roles and fields, at any time. Documents already sent are untouched - a send takes a copy of the plan, so editing a template never rewrites paperwork that is already out.
What if the document text changes?
Upload the new version as a new template. A template whose wording changed is a different agreement, and keeping them separate means the old sends stay tied to the text people actually signed.
Do templates cost extra?
No. Templates are included on both plans and there is no limit on how many you build. Only documents sent each month are metered - 10 on Free.
